Founded in 1216 by Cathal Crovderg O’Connor, Ballintubber Abbey is an important sacred Irish historical site which celebrated its 800 year anniversary in 2016.

Ballintubber Abbey stands one mile off the main Castlebar – Galway road, N84 11 km/ 7miles from Castlebar, 12 km/9 miles from Ballinrobe and 64 km /40 miles from Galway City.

How to Find Us 

From Dublin: At Junction 1 on the M50 to N4 signposted Sligo. At Junction 11 continue forward on N4 for Sligo. At Longford follow the signs for Westport N5. At Castlebar, take the N84 for Galway. Ballintubber Abbey is approx 12 Km from Castlebar

From Galway: Follow signs for Castlebar (N84), continue driving through Shrule, Kilmaine and Ballinrobe. Approx. 5 Km /3 miles after the village of Partry, see the signs for Ballintubber Abbey on the right.
