Ballintubber Abbey was filled to capacity on Thursday, 18th December, as audiences gathered for a sold-out Christmas Concert with Simon Casey, marking his first-ever performance at the Abbey. The evening proved to be a truly memorable celebration of music, faith, and festive spirit in one of Mayo’s most cherished sacred spaces.
From the opening notes to the final encore, Simon Casey delivered a fantastic night of music and song, captivating the audience with a powerful and heartfelt performance drawn from his acclaimed 5-star show, “Christmas Time”. The Abbey’s renowned acoustics provided the perfect setting for a programme that blended Christmas classics, inspirational hymns, and much-loved favourites.
Highlights of the evening included stirring renditions of Hallelujah, Grace, Lady of Knock, The Old Rugged Cross, You Will Never Walk Alone, and Desperado, each met with warm applause and moments of quiet reflection. Simon’s ability to move seamlessly between sacred, seasonal, and contemporary songs created an atmosphere that was both uplifting and deeply emotional.
